Our Mission
Many indigent people whose civil rights are violated have no representation in lawsuits seeking to vindicate their rights. Others have representation that cannot represent them at the appellate stage, particularly following a loss in trial court. These people often lose or cannot effectively pursue important cases—a failure of our civil justice system not only for those people, but for people everywhere who depend on development of case law to expand and protect their rights. This matters in some of the most important areas of law to people’s lives, where plaintiffs often sue pro se—including civil rights suits against police and correctional officers, detained immigrants appealing bad decisions from the BIA, former employees seeking unemployment benefits, and consumers trying to hold big corporations accountable or protect their privacy rights, among others.
All Rise Trial & Appellate serves those people and their interests, with an eye toward developing good case law in appellate courts. All Rise supports anyone fighting back against more powerful interests, through both direct representation and targeted amicus briefing. And All Rise collaborates with attorneys, non-profit organizations, community groups, unions, professors, and others who share those goals.
